I will be speaking before the New York County Lawyers Association tomorrow as part of a day-long symposium on art litigation. My panel is third, titled "Coloring Within the Lines: Governmental (and other) Restrictions on Artistic Expression." The Honorable Barbara Jaffe, Supreme Court of the State of New York, will moderate. Dr. Steven Dubin, Professor at Columbia University, and Leonard Koerner, from the Appeals Division of the NYC Law Department, will be my co-panelists.
My particular subject will be recent developments in deaccessioning policy--the removal of art from a museum's permanent collection (usually through an auction sale). Of interest is a now tabled bill brought before the New York Assembly to legislate museum deaccessioning policy. Here is a quick checklist of relevant articles that I have collected on the subject:
