Where’s the Mercy in ‘Social Justice’?
… Amid this harsh social justice, one may ask: What happened to social mercy? Thomas Aquinas said, “justice without mercy is cruelty.” Whether we are talking about playful children or distinguished professors, the answer may be that social justice is simply meant to be cruel. The arbitrariness, the voyeurism and the way it encourages us to be informers and enforcers reveal the spirit of vengeance that animates these rituals.
